Can you get the license completely online?

Yes. Utah County’s marriage license is digital, and most adult applicants can complete the application, identity verification, signatures, and payment online. The couple completes one application together. Each applicant fills out and digitally signs their own portion.

A license is not a marriage. After approval, you must send the digital license to an authorized officiant and complete a valid ceremony before it expires.

Use the official county application

Apply directly through Utah County. Simply Married Online conducts ceremonies but does not issue licenses, collect county fees, or control application approval.

Before you apply or book

Both partners must be 18 or older to use Simply Married Online. If either partner is under 18, contact Utah County directly about eligibility and additional requirements before applying. We do not provide ceremonies for minors.

Neither partner may still be legally married to someone else. Separation or filing for divorce is not enough. A divorce must be final before marrying again.

Use a valid email address that you can access throughout the application and ceremony process.

Each applicant needs a valid government-issued photo ID. Applicants outside the United States commonly use a passport.

A smartphone

The online system uses a phone to scan each applicant’s identification and face for identity verification.

Payment method

Have a credit or debit card ready for the county fee and any optional document or shipping services.

You will also provide legal names, current addresses, birth information, parent information, and a Social Security number if one has been issued to you. Review every entry carefully because the application becomes part of the official marriage record.

Apply online, step by step

    Start one application as a couple

    Use the official Utah County application. If both partners accidentally start separate applications, complete one and leave the duplicate unfinished.

    Complete both applicant sections

    Each person enters their own information and digitally signs their portion. Applicants may use different devices while working from the same shared application.

  3. 03

    Verify both identities

    Follow the phone prompts to photograph the ID and take a facial image. Remove glasses and hats, use a plain background, and make sure the image is clear.

  4. 04

    Choose documents and pay

    Review the county fee and any optional certified copies, shipping, apostille, authentication, or other services before paying. County and document fees are separate from the ceremony fee.

    Receive your digital license

    After approval, Utah County emails instructions for accessing the digital license. Check every name and date, then use the county workflow to send the private license link to your officiant.

Budget and timing

How much does the license cost?

Utah County sets the marriage-license fee and any charges for optional documents or shipping. Because those amounts can change, verify the current total directly on the official Utah County Marriage License page before applying.

There is no waiting period, so an approved license can be used the same day. It expires 32 days after issuance. County fees and optional services are nonrefundable.

What can delay approval?

  • An identification image that is blurry, cropped, altered, expired where not accepted, or difficult to verify.
  • A facial image taken with glasses, a hat, poor lighting, or a distracting background.
  • Information that does not match the identification document.
  • Manual identity verification, which Utah County says typically takes a few business days.
  • A divorce within the previous 60 days, which may require county review of the divorce decree.
  • Additional rules for applicants under 18, who should contact Utah County before relying on the online process.

Obtain and verify the license before booking a ceremony. Appointment availability does not eliminate county review time.

After approval

Your next step is the ceremony

Send the license through Utah County’s approved digital workflow to an authorized officiant. For a remote ceremony, both partners and two witnesses age 18 or older must attend live and be able to see and hear one another.
